Education Act to Standardize Age of Entry Alberta-Wide in 2020

Posted

In September of this year, the amended provincial Education Act will come into force.

The Education Act will implement a standardized age of entry for kindergarten students across the province as of September 1, 2020. As of then, children must be 5 years old by December 31 of the year they begin school. These changes will replace the various ages of entry that currently exist across the province.

Currently, children entering kindergarten at STAR Catholic Schools must be 5 years old prior to January 1 of the year they begin school. The exception is students in the Leduc Ward, who currently must be 5 years old by the end of February of that year.

As of September 1, 2020, as per provincial regulations, all students entering kindergarten in STAR Catholic Schools must be 5 years old by December 31, 2020 of the 2020-2021 school year.
