News Release

Leduc — St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Schools (STAR Catholic) is recording another year of Divisional enrollment growth, a trend that has continued for more than five years. STAR Catholic has 12 schools serving six communities and has seen its Division enrollment rise to 4,095 students for the 2017-2018 school year, a gain of 142 students from the 2016-2017 school year, representing a 3.46 per cent increase.

This year’s rise in enrollment includes the addition of École Mother d’Youville School in Beaumont, which welcomed 220 students for its first year. It also includes the second year of Father Leduc Catholic School in Leduc, which added Grade 7 this year, bringing its total to 354 students.

“STAR Catholic’s continued growth, for many years now, confirms and illustrates the commitment and confidence our families have in our staff and in our schools. We consider it a real privilege to be entrusted by so many parents with providing their child a first-rate Catholic education,” said Dr. Troy Davies, Superintendent. “I sincerely appreciate the connections our families have established with STAR and the relationships we have built.”

St. Anthony School in Drayton Valley saw an 8.7 per cent increase in enrollment from 388 to 422, representing the largest overall gain in students among all Division schools.

As expected due to grade reconfiguration in Leduc, there was a reduction in enrollment at Christ the King School as the Grade 7 class was relocated to Father Leduc Catholic School.

Based in central Alberta, Saint Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic School Division represents 12 schools that serve the communities of Beaumont, Drayton Valley, Lacombe, Leduc, Ponoka, and Wetaskiwin. The STAR Catholic Schools team of teachers and support staff are committed to giving more than 4,000 students across our division every opportunity to achieve their potential in a caring, safe and Christ-centred environment.
