Notre Dame School teacher nominated for Edwin Parr Award

Posted

Fun, nice and the best teacher I have ever had are just some of the ways students describe Pierrette Folefack.

A first year, Grade 1 French Immersion teacher at Notre Dame School in Leduc, Pierrette Folefack is St. Thomas Aquinas Roman (STAR) Catholic School Division’s nominee for the Alberta School Boards’ Association 2017 Edwin Parr Teacher Award.

Each year the Alberta School Boards’ Association (ASBA) honors six outstanding first-year teachers with the Edwin Parr Teacher Award. School boards may nominate any first-year K to 12 teacher who has taught in an Alberta school jurisdiction which is a member of the ASBA.

“Pierrette is continually experimenting with various ways in which to affect every learner,” said Notre Dame Principal Monique Tellier – Phillips. “When you visit her classroom you find her students engaged and active learners. That’s what Pierrette is able to create in the classroom.”

The 2016/2017 school year was the first year French Immersion was offered the Notre Dame School and Folefack has been instrumental in growing that programming.

“Her class was exposed to French Immersion for the first time, and Pierrette was able to make individual plans centered on each student’s knowledge of French to ensure success,” said Tellier – Phillips. “Students often hear ‘bravo,’ and ‘fantastique,’ as praise and passion are the backbone of her teaching.”

Folefack also helped STAR Catholic by promoting Divisional French Immersion career opportunities at an Education Career Fair at Faculte St. Jean. As a life-long learner Folefack is involved in the first year teacher mentorship program, gaining wisdom from her mentor and attending the first year teaching conference earlier this year.

“Notre Dame School and STAR Catholic have been blessed to have Pierrette. She is a warm, caring, and dedicated educator. Students respect her and are excited to be part of her class, and we are excited to have her be our Edwin Parr nominee,” said Dr. Troy Davies, Superintendent.
